While the Super Bowl was being broadcast on Sunday evening, I was driving to Louisville, Kentucky for a meeting with other recipients of the Louisville Institute grant for pastoral study projects. My project won’t happen until next year around this time, but this is a required part of the process laid out by the Lilly Foundation.
In a short time, I’ll be meeting with the other grantees whose biographical sketches I’ve been reading for the past week. They are a pretty impressive group. Many have dedicated themselves to projects and ministries that have done an amazing amount of good in the world. They have invested their lives in something bigger than themselves.
Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, the famous philosopher and paleontologist, once said, “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience.” In other words, our time on this planet is short. We are getting ready for an eternity someplace else, so we better spend our time and resources investing in things that really matter.
Are you investing in your spiritual life? Are you actively engaged in ministry or a small group Bible study? Time is short and the opportunities are plenty – so invest wisely!
