Human beings are funny creatures. We have it in our heads that real power and authority always comes from the top. That’s why so many people are in a hurry to get there, no matter what it takes. But, as Jesus made clear in both word and in deed, real power comes from humility, sacrifice and service.
This coming weekend, we remember how Jesus rode into Jerusalem for the last time. Many of those who celebrated his triumphal entry thought he was coming in power. And he was! They just didn’t understand the kind of power he represented.
Jesus shows us what true leadership and authority looks like. And we are called, not only to follow in his footsteps, but to lead as he did. Paul instructs, “Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave… And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death – even death on a cross.”
Come, join us this weekend, as we welcome the one true King!
