In a few days, Pastor Brian and I will be headed to Indianapolis for the biennial General Assembly of the Christian Church. The General Assembly is always fun and engaging. The worship is amazing, with four to five thousand gathering for worship every night (the music and preaching alone are worth the price of admission). In addition to the required business meetings, there are workshops on nearly any topic you can imagine. And, in many ways, it’s like a giant family reunion – with friends coming in from literally all over the world.
This year’s Assembly will be extra special, as we’ll be attending the Christian Church Foundation’s banquet on Tuesday evening, when the Harry T. Ice Award will be presented to Dick and Delores Lofton – the highest honor given by the Foundation to an individual for outstanding service and philanthropy. Of course, in Keokuk we already recognize the long-term leadership and commitment to the church the Loftons have modeled – but it’s good to know that others have noticed, too!
I haven’t missed an Assembly since attending my first one in Des Moines in 1985. I look forward to representing Keokuk once again and to bringing home new ideas and inspiration for the year ahead!
