The other day I ran across a word I’d never seen before: “lifewithoutspacemakesnosense.” Of course, it didn’t take me long to realize the spaces had been left out. Add the spaces back in and you have the makings of a great sermon: “life without space makes no sense.”
As we enter into the summer months, many of us will make time for vacations and quality time with our families and friends. But for some of us, making space feels unnatural. We are so driven to work and get things done that taking time for leisure somehow feels wrong.
Let me remind you that even God took a break – and commanded us to do the same. In Genesis 2:2 we read, “By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.”
The need for rest and “re-creation” is built right into our world. So, be sure to make some space this summer for fun. God created us to be more than just productive machines. And never forget that God invites you to join him every seventh day as we make space in our busy lives for worship and praise.
