I was watching the preacher Francis Chan speaking, and in the middle of his sermon he kinda took out his phone and was looking at it, and he said, “if you’ll find your bibles,” (still looking at his phone) “and uhh find Jeremiah.” And he kinda acted like he was texting, “Jeremiah 29:13” he’d say, and looked like he was texting some more… and then he said “I’m not really texting anyone, I’m trying to illustrate, don’t you hate when people do that, I do” he said, “though I do it all the time.” He said, some of you thought that it looked totally normal, oh he’s preaching and texting at the same time, totally normal. He’s making good use of his time, multi-tasking.”
Jeremiah 29:13 says that “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart…” It is a little too rare anymore that we devote our whole attention to something, or someone, we’re so busy we have a hundred different things running through our mind, we have 8 or 9 windows up on our computers, we have twelve different text conversations popping up on our phones. But the promise is that we will actually find God, we will seek and find God, when we do so with our whole hearts…
This season, when busyness creeps in so quickly, when our temptation is to try to do a million different things all at once… If you dare – resist this temptation and instead do things slowly, with a deep gaze at your life and your family… Devote yourselves fully to God. My guess is that it’ll be worth it. “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart…”
