When I was in school, I always put a lot of pressure on myself to perform well – and was always discouraged when I didn’t. Some things never change – which is why the message of God’s unmerited love and amazing grace always sounds like such Good News to me.
There’s a great old country song by George Strait called “Love Without End” that expresses this so well. It tells the story of a young boy who comes home from school after getting into trouble for fighting. He’s expecting punishment, but instead his father says, “Let me tell you a secret about a father’s love… Daddies don’t just love their children every now and then… it’s a love without end. Amen.” The boy grows up and passes that same message along to his children. Then, one day he dreams he dies and goes to heaven. Once again, he’s afraid of being punished for his sins. And once again he hears his father’s words, “Daddies don’t just love their children every now and then …it’s a love without end. Amen.”
Come and experience God’s unconditional love with us in worship and small groups this fall at First Christian Church. There is something for everyone!
