We’ve been in our home off of River Road now for about 2 ½ years. The first summer, we noticed a few hummingbirds would stop by our window to inform us the previous owners had been thoughtful enough to put out feeders for them. This summer, we finally got with the program and have been enjoying watching them come and go ever since.
I have read hummingbirds have the fastest metabolism of any creature in the world. In order to keep their little hearts beating at a rate of 1260 beats per minute, a hummingbird is required to take in a huge amount of calories every day just to survive.
As fellow creatures in God’s creation, we also have the need for daily sustenance. Our bodies need food and water in order to function properly. But as Jesus made clear during his temptation in the wilderness, “People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” In other words, we require more than just food for our bodies.
Regular worship is one place where the rich nutrition of God’s word is available to all. Be sure your spiritual nutritional needs are being met every week. See you in church!
