Do you remember your dreams? Some people say they don’t, but scientists tell us that everyone dreams. Most of the time, our dreams are a product of our subconscious working on issues of which our conscious minds may or may not be aware. Sometimes they are just the brain’s version of housekeeping. But occasionally I believe God speaks to us in our dreams.
The Bible is filled with examples of God speaking in this way. In the Old Testament, part of what made Joseph so special was his ability to interpret dreams. Over the years, I have had friends like Joseph who could be counted on to help me work through a dream that seemed important. I can’t count the number of times God has spoken to me in this way – sometimes with a message my conscious mind wasn’t quite ready to hear.
My point is… for those who are paying attention, God still speaks. God speaks through scripture. God speaks through the voice of friends and loved ones. God speaks through beauty and art. Indeed, God speaks to you. Of course, God’s primary message is one of love. But he also wants to be your shepherd and guide in life. Are you listening?
