These are my favorite verses from the Bible for helping me to be content with my financial condition. They also remind me to make my spiritual condition my top priority.
“Two things I ask of you, LORD; do not refuse me before I die:
Keep falsehood and lies far from me;
give me neither poverty nor riches,
but give me only my daily bread.
Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say,
‘Who is the LORD?’ Or I may become poor and steal,
and so dishonor the name of my God.”
Proverbs 30:7-9 (NIV)
If you are like me, you find yourself living somewhere on that spectrum between poverty and wealth. These verses show us that both poverty and wealth can present temptations that can lead a person away from the Lord. Did you ever consider that you might just be in the “sweet spot” for living a God-honoring life? The next time you are wishing you had more, stop to reflect on these verses. Then thank God that you are neither poor nor rich and ask Him how to use what you do have to honor Him. Perhaps the answer will be to join this body of believers in helping those who are in more need than you.
