As we journey into the New Year I’m reminded of a scripture near and dear to me. “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” Galatians 6:9-11
Looking back through 2016, I found myself smiling at some of the “good” that passed through FCC: brown bag sandwiches were made for God’s Way three times per month; lunch was provided by our deacons for the homeless and underprivileged once a month; change was collected for the Loads of Love ministry; we had a gigantic shoe drive for the overseas regional mission project; our adult mission team traveled to Guatemala to provide medical/dental assistance and build homes; our youth traveled to Oklahoma to serve the needy; several members traveled throughout many different communities for our Disciples Together weekend projects; we collected over $2,200 for the God’s Way Thanksgiving baskets; 19 families and 49 children received Christmas blessings through On a Mission For Jesus; and we helped the Disciples church in Lake Jackson, Texas to purchase a steeple and hymnals after their devastation.
God put each and every one of these opportunities before us to do good to all people. Let’s not stop because it is a new year! Let’s broaden our plan for 2017 as we continue to be and share the good news of Jesus Christ!
