Waiting and Watching

The purpose of Advent, the season of preparation before Christmas, is always the same: to wait and watch.

Recently, I’ve witnessed families waiting and watching over their loved ones in hospice care. They kept vigil night and day. They waited and watched not out of obligation, but out of love. Was it easy? No. But it is often in times like these that faith grows and blossoms in ways we would have never expected.

The prophet Isaiah wrote, “Even youths will faint and be weary, but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”

Waiting – especially waiting peacefully, patiently and even expectantly – isn’t always easy. But that is what Advent is all about. It’s a reminder, at what for many of us is the busiest time of the year, to stop doing and working and moving and just be quiet for a while. It’s a reminder to pay attention to the things that are really important.

Join us for worship, study, and fellowship as we wait patiently, once again, for Emmanuel – God with us!
